Frequently Asked Questions
Are you accepting new clients? +
We are very limited in the number of new clients we can accept. Preference is given to friends and family of current clients. Please contact our office directly.
I got a bill from the IRS for penalties and interest. But you filed an extension. What gives? +
The extension we file in April is only an extension of the time to file your tax return. It is not an extension of time to pay your taxes. Much, much more HERE.
Why are you bugging me about my Health Savings Accounts (HSA)? +
If you have a Health Savings Account through your job, the amount contributed to the plan for the year will be reported on your W-2. This gets reported on your tax return. Did you USE your HSA this year? If so, you should receive a 1099-SA from the bank that holds your account. It will show you how much you spent. I need that 1099-SA to complete your return.
I got a form 5498! Do you need this? +
The 5498 series forms are used to report contributions to tax-favored accounts, like HSAs and IRAs, to the IRS. We generally do not need them, unless there is some confusion about your account. But of course these forms come out in May, and are stamped ‘Important Tax Document’, apparently just to keep me busy.
